Description

The region of nucleus-nucleus collision energies √ sNN ~ 2-10 GeV is very attractive for the detailed study of the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter, where the first-order phase transition and the existence of the critical endpoint (CEP) are predicted by QCD. So far, the experimental investigations carried out in this energy range by the NA61 collaboration at SPS and in the Beam Energy Scan programme of STAR at RHIC have shown no evidence for the first-order phase transition (although some anomalies have been observed that deserve closer attention).
In this report, we focus on the feasibility of the physics performance studies for the first stage of the MPD at NICA operation in Bi+Bi collisions at √ sNN = 9.2 GeV.
